Telegram

To connect Telegram, a Telegram Bot is required. Read our guide to create a Telegram Bot.

Telegram is a cloud-based instant messaging and voice-over IP service developed by Telegram Messenger LLP. This Telegram Bot integration lets you respond to messages directly from our platform.

Connecting Telegram

Step 1: Navigate to Channel Settings

From Settings module, navigate to the menu item, Channels.

Step 2: Add Channel

Click Add Channel and choose Telegram. The Connecting Telegram dialog should open up.

Step 3: Message BotFather

On your telegram app, message the BotFather.

Step 4: Connecting to a bot

Send the command /mybots and select the bot to connect.

Step 5: Get API Token

Select API Token from the menu options and add the API token to the corresponding field on the respond.io platform.

Step 6: Complete the setup at respond.io

Click Done to complete the setup.

Once you've completed the setup, any messages sent to your Telegram account will now be received in your Workspace.

Channel Configuration

Telegram channel can be configured with a unique channel name.

Step 1: Navigate to Channel Settings

From Settings module, navigate to the menu item, Channels.

Step 2: Locate the Telegram channel

Once you've located the Telegram channel, click Configure.

Step 3: Make the necessary configuration

You can configure the following:

  • Channel Name - Name used internally to identify the account.
Important: Be careful when entering your details as errors might cause failure to receive messages from your Telegram account.

Step 4: Update the configuration

Click Done to update the channel configuration.

Broadcast Capabilities

There is no limit to sending broadcast messages with Telegram as there is no messaging window. Businesses can send an unlimited number of broadcasts of any type.

However, Contacts may choose to block your Telegram bot if they no longer want to receive these messages.

FAQ and Troubleshooting

Can I connect to a personal Telegram account?

To connect a Telegram channel, a Telegram Bot is required. You can create a Telegram Bot here.

Can I start a conversation with a Telegram Contact?

Telegram bot rules say contacts must message you first before you can message them back. You can share your QR code or t.me link with your Audience.

Can I receive files via Telegram channel?

Yes, but the maximum file size for a Telegram bot to download is 20 MB. If the Contact sent a video bigger than 20 MB, the file cannot be downloaded by the bot.

Do you support Telegram Groups?

Telegram Groups are not supported yet, you can upvote our feature request here.

Bot Token

If you have lost your Telegram Bot token for some reason or if your existing token has been compromised, you can use the token command to generate a new one.

How can I create a QR Code for my Telegram account?

  1. On the respond.io platform, click Settings > Growth Widget > + Add Widget
  2. Select QR Code option and click Create Widget
  3. Select "Telegram" as the QR code type > Select the connected Telegram Channel that you want to create the QR code for.
  4. Click Download and select the size of the QR code you want to save.

You can also create a QR code through the Telegram mobile app.

  1. Tap Settings in the menu of your Telegram app.
  2. Tap the QR code icon on the top right corner.
  3. Choose a background design that you like and tap the Share QR Code button to share it with your customers.

How do I change my Telegram bot profile photo?

  1. In your Telegram app, search for BotFather.
  2. In the chat box, enter /mybots to bring up a list of your bots.
  3. Select your bot > Edit Bot > Edit Botpic.
  4. Send your new profile photo.

How do I change my Telegram bot name?

  1. In your Telegram app, search for BotFather.
  2. In the chat box, enter/mybots to bring up a list of your bots.
  3. Select your bot > Edit Bot > Edit Name.
  4. Enter and send a new name for your bot.
